Subscribe to our newsletter The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has pulled in an impressive $628.7 million globally since its US release on April 1, marking it the third highest-grossing video game movie of all time.

No mean feat, really, considering its mixed reviews and disappointing 43% score on Rotten Tomatoes.According to Box Office Mojo, the colorful sequel, which introduces franchise favorites Yoshi and Rosalina, made $372.5m of the above sum during its opening weekend alone, which falls just short of the $377m earnt by its predecessor The Super Mario Bros Movie.With The Super Mario Bros Movie having gone on to make a whopping $1.36 billion during its theatrical run, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has some way to go match its success ## Editor's Note What do you think about this news?
