It was first announced back in 2022, with Francis Lawrence attached to direct.

Pre-production has yet to begin, however, as Lawrence was busy in 2025 with Stephen King's The Long Walk, and is now hard at work on the new Hunger Games movie.
While Quaid previously pitched a prequel of sorts, taking place before the underwater city of Rapture collapsed, the Netflix movie will adapt the first title
