Who is Devon Izara? The Twi'lek Jedi Padawan is a new creation for the Maul – Shadow Lord spin-off show, which means she's quite the mysterious figure.

So far, we've learned a little bit about Devon, and it's clear she's going to have a major part to play as the Star Wars show goes on. Below, we've explained what we know so far about the Twi'lek, as well as her potential connection to George Lucas's scrapped sequel trilogy ideas.

So far, hardly anything is known about Devon Izara. As we see in the first two episodes of the Maul show, she's a Jedi Padawan on the run from Order 66 with her Master, Eeko-Dio Daki. After being caught stealing food, she's imprisoned after a meeting with Captain Brander Lawson – and, for some reason, she is of great interest to Maul, who notices her in captivity as he arrives to deal with imprisoned crime boss Vario.

Why Devon is of interest to Maul – aside from her being a Jedi Padawan, of course – how she survived Order 66, and how she came to be on Janix are all mysteries for now.

Interestingly, in George Lucas's unused sequel plans, crime boss Maul and a Twi'lek named Talon were set to be major dark side antagonists, and Dave Filoni has even said the show honors some of Lucas's original ideas for Maul.

"Darth Maul trained a girl, Darth Talon, who was in the comic books, as his apprentice," Lucas revealed in The Star Wars Archives - Episode I - III, 1999 - 2005 (H/T SFF Gazette).

"She was the new Darth Vader, and most of the action was with her," he continued. "So these were the two main villains of the trilogy. Maul eventually becomes the godfather of crime in the universe because, as the Empire falls, he takes over."

That sounds very familiar… though how much of it comes to pass remains to be seen. "We can't give away too much," supervising director Brad Rau told us. "We have heard a lot of the fan theories and speculations, and we are fascinated by them. We'll just put it at that, leave it at that."
